Sydney Light Rail: Milestones! George Street, first column of trams for 60 years, the test run a complete success

 26 Jun 2019

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a tram drove slowly through George Street, a landmark event in Sydney because it was the first time a tram had appeared on the street in more than 60 years.

The workers and the police car were on the scene and the tram was opened in front of the city hall of sydney. In fact, this is the Sydney light rail test for new services in the center of the city.

"It`s the first tram from George Street since 1958," said the Sydney Light Rail. "The staff are also a reminder of the current stage of the test and that pedestrians need to pay more attention to the tramway.

Andrew Constance, the traffic and road director, said it was a "great milestone because Sydney`s light rail is another step towards passenger service."

"We let the tram drive to the city hall all the time, and we were really relieved to see that the projects were really relieved, which means that we are not far from the official operation."

The light rail will carry passengers for the first time from December on the line between Circular Quay and Randwick in eastern Sydney. The second phase of the line from Randwick to Kingsford will begin operation in March next year.

This week`s test run is an important sign of the project.

Just a few weeks ago, it ended the dispute with the consortium and the spanish construction contractor. When the light rail project was announced, the government said it would be finished in march.

Due to the construction of light rail, the operation of several retailers is affected, their 400 million yuan collective litigation is still in the new state college.

It is understood that the tram test will be carried out at Chalmers Street outside the Randwick, Moore Park, Surry Hills, and central stations.
