Adelaide mental patient killed a doctor but was acquitted, and during his release he was arrested for taking drugs many times.

 15 Nov 2018

Years ago, a mentally ill Adelaide man killed his psychiatrist. Now, he is released to the community, claiming that he has "learned his lesson" and that it is unknown how many times he has been released.

On Wednesday (Nov. 14), the Supreme Court of South Australia released a criminal who had killed his psychiatrist on the grounds that the man was suffering from mental illness and needed medical treatment. It is reported that the criminal has been released too many times.

The man killed his doctor in 1992, and when he was arrested, he explained that the voice in his head told him to kill his doctor because she was a vampire and she wanted to hurt herself with a voodoo doll.

Later, because of mental illness, the man was acquitted and, under certain restrictions, treated in a mental hospital. At the beginning of the 21st century, the man was repeatedly released to the community. But every time he was caught for drug abuse. Earlier this year, his release permit was cancelled as a result of a violation of the conditions for the use of illicit drugs.

Court heard that amphetamine, benzodiazepine, marijuana and methadone were detected in him. After more than six months in detention, the judge released him again on Wednesday.

"it`s important to keep taking prescription drugs," the judge said. "then warn him to stay away from illicit drugs and go to a doctor on a regular basis."

The man said he knew and vowed to comply with the conditions of release.

"I have learned my lesson." He said。

The case will be reviewed again in November.
