Victoria Barracks

The Victoria Barracks on St Kilda Road is a protected building with both architectural and historical importance. It is also known as one of the most impressive 19th-century goverment buildings.

The first building (Block G) was built by soldiers of the 40th Regiment under the supervision of Royal Engineers from 1856 to 1858, while the remaining buildings were constructed by civil contractors, and the original turquoise buildings were built in 1856 and 1872. In 1917, a large expansion of the (A Block New Wing) was added to accommodate the headquarters Defense Department.
