TikTok chief executive Kevin Mayer in a june 28 letter to the indian government seen by reuters on friday that china has never asked for user data, and TikTok wouldn't have done so asked.

TikTok have pledged $1 billion in India.

TikTok has become one of the fastest growing social media applications since it was launched in 2017.

India is its largest market by users, followed by the US.

The letter Mayer highlighted TikTok investments in India, over 3,500 direct and indirect employees and content in 14 languages.

"The privacy of our users and the security and sovereignty of India are essential to us ," he wrote ." We have announced plans to establish a data centre in India. "
