China`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular director, Cui Anmin, told an annual media briefing on consular work on February 17 that embassies and consulates abroad would make passport "global communications office" effective February 1 and remove restrictions on overseas Chinese citizens`lost, stolen or damaged passports.
Mr cui said overseas citizen could apply to any chinese embassy or consulate abroad for a replacement passport in the future.
In case of renewal, only original passport, declaration of status of nationality, photo and application form are required. If it is a replacement, provide additional information on the loss or damage. In the case of lost, stolen or damaged chinese citizen, who has been abroad for no more than 180 days, embassies and consulates abroad generally issue travel permits rather than passports for returning to china. In the future, there will be no further 180-day restrictions, and whenever time permits, embassies and consulates abroad may issue passports upon request.
In addition, with the help of new scientific and technological means, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign embassies and consulates also plan to provide a number of "Internet" convenience services.
