Gastroenteritis has erupted in several locations along the Gold Coast, with 16 child care centres, schools and geriatric care centres affected, and health authorities are investigating cases in five other locations.

Andre Wattiaux, from the Golden Coast public health department, said the illness was spreading, and we urged people to wash their hands often, and if children develop symptoms, parents should let them stay at home.

"A few weeks ago, we were informed by a number of child-care centres that had a number of gastrointestinal infections inside them ," Dr. Varty said.

"We only had nine cases last weekend, and that's a lot. "

"As of yesterday, we had 16 sites and we were looking at five more, so it was clear that the number was rising. "

"Just a matter of time"

Gastroenteritis is usually caused by virus 、 bacterial or parasitic infections.

It causes inflammation and irritation in the stomach and intestines, leading to diarrhea, vomiting and nausea.

McFarland (Monica McFarlane) said her two-year-old son had symptoms over the weekend and she feared that two other children, three and five, might also be affected.

"Sooner or later, it's just a matter of time ," she said.

"I went to the doctor two days ago because my son was very ill. "

"He developed symptoms for the first time on Saturday and is still thinning. "

Ms. McFarland said six children at her son's Southport Childcare Centre (Southport childcare centre) were absent on Monday and she is now infected with gastroenteritis.

The Public Health Department of the Gold Coast has not yet published the affected schools and centres.

Disease outbreaks have occurred in various areas of the Gold Coast, with child-care centres most affected.

"And we've seen this in some schools in primary and high schools, and in some boarding live a retired life homes ," Varty said. "

"Gastroenteritis is normal, especially in early summer... But the numbers in two weeks add up, which is quite a lot. "

Pay attention to hand hygiene

Dr. Varty said parents should tell their children to wash their hands and staff or people who go to geriatric care should maintain high hygiene standards.

"But washing hands thoroughly and regularly with soap and water does break Coronavirus, circulation ," Varty said. "

"If your child has symptoms of diarrhea and/or vomiting, do not send them to childcare centres and schools and allow them to stay at home for at least 48 hours after disappeared. "

Gold Coast Public Health says no one has yet been taken to hospital, and most people with symptoms will recover within 24 to 48 hours.
