Australian domestic waste classification and recycling strategy: waste electrical appliances, plastic bottles. How do you throw it? you'll see it.

What is one of the most important skills you need to learn to come to Australia?

The answer is: throw away trash!

It's a simple garbage classification, but in fact, a lot of people throw it wrong.

1. Self-examination: have you made these garbage-throwing mistakes?

Garbage sorting is common knowledge in Australia. 96% of Australians are aware of garbage classification, but 94% of Australians still put non-recyclable waste in recyclable bins.

And according to the latest survey, the vast majority of Australians will not "throw rubbish correctly"!

82% mistakenly thought that a triangle arrow on a plastic package meant it was recyclable;

Seventy-three percent of people don't flatten the egg carton when they throw it.

60% of people recycled aluminum foil products without compacting them to the size of a golf ball;

Fifty-eight percent of people don't take out the rest of the food when they recycle pizza boxes.

Almost half mistakenly believe plastic tableware can be recycled;

Thirty-eight percent thought plastic straws could be recycled;

Thirty-six percent mistakenly put plastic bags and soft plastic in recycling bins;

Twenty-seven percent mistakenly put recyclables in bags and threw them into recycling bins.

Another 1/4 thought anything could be thrown into a recycling bin, and 45 percent said they didn't know if they should be recycled because of vague labels and instructions.

So when you recycle garbage wrongly, you can cause a lot of trouble for this subsequent classification.

Garbage throwing error 1: plastic bags, fruit and vegetable bags, potato chip bags, clothes, and even dirty diapers cannot be thrown into the recycling bin!

When these things pass through the conveyor belt, they create the machine's Catton, thus forcing workers to climb onto the machine to clean up.

Garbage throwing error 2: don't bag recyclable items!

Many people regularly dispose of recyclable waste in their homes by putting them in plastic bags and then throwing them into recyclable bins.

Throw trash error 3: bottle, bottle and can still have residual liquid!

Before throwing all the bottles, rinse, dry, and then squash it over the lid and throw it into the recycling bin.

If there is any remaining liquid in the bottle, it will leak and damage the machine when it passes through the crusher.

Throw trash error 4: the egg box does not squash!

Cartons are naturally disassembled and folded and thrown, but irregular egg boxes are often ignored. But if the egg box is not flattened, it will be bounced off the conveyor belt into the classification of plastic and aluminium products.

Throw trash mistake 5: there are leftovers in the pizza box!

In the same way, many recyclable boxes of food need to be emptied of the residue and then flattened for recycling.

Throw trash error 6: aluminum foil products directly thrown!

Aluminum foil paper is special and needs to be rolled up and thrown, otherwise, it will easily fall out of the hole in the recycling machine.

In addition to these less-noticed recycling habits, one of the reasons for the confusion in garbage collection is that the recycling mark on the packaging is unclear, and many people are confused about whether it can be recycled or not.

Rebecca Gilling, Planet Ark's deputy chief executive, discovered the problem, saying they recently introduced a new, simpler recycling label that makes it easier for more people to understand:

  • Black Arrowhead represents Recyclability
  • White Arrowheads represent conditional Recyclability
  • The trash can stands for non-recyclable.

There are now more than 100 Australian companies using this label.

2. About the garbage can.

In an apartment in Australia, garbage sorting can be thrown into a fixed dump site in a building, and for those living in a stand-alone house, it takes a skill to push the trash can.

Yellow garbage dumped in recyclable bins includes:

Clean paper and cardboard (newspapers, magazines, spam, envelopes, egg boxes, cartons-flattened);

Juice and milk cartons;

Glass bottles and cans;

Aluminum / steel cans and covers;

Aerosol tank (empty);

Aluminum foil plate, tray (clean and rolled to fist size).

All hard plastic containers (beverage bottles, shampoo and detergent bottles, ice cream and yogurt containers, plastic plant basins)

Does not include:

Plastic bags, garbage can liners or any other soft plastic items;

Clothes or shoes;

A pillow, cushion, quilt, or blanket; a pillow.

Polystyrene foam tray, cup or packaging;

Diapers;

A container or bottle containing food or drink;

A lampshade, mirror, or window glass;

Electrical or battery;

Rope or hose;

Wood products;

Be careful! The following items are not allowed to be thrown into any of the trash bins:

Batteries;

Any small electrical appliance (e.g. kettle, toaster, portable fan);

Light globe;

All liquid waste (including mechanical and edible oils);

Building rubbish (e.g. bricks, concrete, soil, rocks);

Hot ash;

Chemicals and poisons;

Liquid paint;

Medical waste (e.g. pills, X-rays, syringes);

Ammunition or explosion;

Vehicle spare parts;

Gas tank, high pressure cylinder;

Garden garbage in bulk.

Used rechargeable batteries (which include batteries in laptops, mobile phones, power tools and cameras) are hazardous waste and cannot be put into garbage bins.

Many Australian stores, such as Aldi supermarkets, offer free battery recycling.

Any brand of AA,AAA,C,D and 9V batteries (rechargeable and non-rechargeable) can be recycled by simply putting used batteries in a store's dedicated garbage bin.

I can't find it. You can log on to recyclingnearyou.com.au to find the recycling point near your home.

And like abandoned pot bowls, ladypot appliances, and so on, all you need to put on the roadside in front of your home, there will be council regularly towing away recycling.

Throwing the wrong garbage will also face fines ranging from A $50 to A $500.

Throwing non-recyclable waste into a recyclable bin, for example, could lead to a fine of A $350.

Putting "uncollectible" waste such as explosion, sewage or cylinders in a trash can, or putting it in a neighbor's trash can without permission, could also be fined A $350.

Residents need to put the dumpster on the roadside on the edge of the street, waiting for the garbage truck to dump uniformly.

More than that, make sure the bin is 30 centimeters free of objects, such as cars, trees, or other bins.

If there is a circular road in front of your house, be careful to put the garbage bin on a straight road nearby,

Also be careful not to put the dumpster in the corner.

Finally, do not think that littering is a trivial matter. Some communities in Australia have said that if residents throw non-recyclable waste into recyclable bins again, they will have to stop their recyclable refuse collection services. I can't even throw away the garbage by then!

It seems that in Australia, littering is also a knowledge, so you must remember the above rules that can not be thrown.
