Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) President confirms layoffs are on the verge of being laid off

Australian Broadcasting Corporation President David Anderson told the Senate Evaluation Committee that he could not specify how many jobs would be cut.

ABC`s president confirmed that some of ABC`s employees would be unemployed as federal government frozen ABC budgets.

Speaking at a meeting of the Senate Evaluation Committee on Tuesday night, David Anderson (David Anderson), president of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), expressed the impact of Unionparty government`s decision on the ABC budget.

"there will be people who will lose their jobs," Anderson said.

"at present, I can`t quantify the number of unemployed, and there is more work to be done."

"some have something to do with personnel positions, others have nothing to do with it-there are many ways to improve efficiency."

Federal government announced last year that ABC`s annual allocation for three years would be frozen at the same level. The move will cost ABC A $83.7 million.

The budget cuts will take place in phases over three years, starting with nearly A $15 million in 2019 / 20, about A $28 million in 2020 / 21 and just over A $41 million in 2021 / 22.

Anderson confirmed that the period was fraught with uncertainty for employees.

"now, all I can say is,`I`m sure there will be employees out of work, `but I can`t say how many people, or which [department] they`re from-I know, of course, there`s a lot of uncertainty," he said.

ABC has so far saved A $17 million in budget savings, but more needs to be done, Anderson said.

"I don`t think we can close the budget gap without layoffs."

However, he told the Senate Evaluation Committee that he would consider keeping personnel positions in remote areas unchanged.

"one of our future priorities is, of course, to be as close to the local community as possible," he said.

"it is our duty to reflect all aspects of Australian culture and society for Australians.

"if it hadn`t been for the locals, it would have been difficult to do so."
