Scott Wendas said he spent a month and a half on fruit, eggs and water, the main food he had during the Daqing blockade.

A British man lives in China during the global pandemic of pneumonia. He said he did not regret staying in the country, although he said he had been blocked when he entered the supermarket.

Scott Wendas (Scott Windass),27, from Hull, has been an English teacher in Daqing, northeast China, for nearly three years.

He said he felt safer in China than in Britain because of local measures; but he claimed that he had been evicted from stores because of his "foreigner" status.

His father, Dave Windas (Dave Windass), said his son "probably did the right thing ".

"It's a little bad, but I' m glad I'm here ," Scott Wendas said.

Windas ,27, said he had to rely on his friends to give him food.

Mr Windas said he spent mainly "a month and a half on fruit, eggs and water" and had to rely on his Chinese friends to deliver food to him during the nearly three months since February.

"Sometimes they say'No, you ca n' t come in ,' and sometimes they block the entrance with their bodies and raise their hands to say ,' No, you can't come in .'"

"I don't think I' m being treated very well, but I know someone's going to get worse than me. "

He said some store staff thought he was American and he "felt less popular ".

Daqing is located in Heilongjiang, the northernmost province of China bordering Russia.

China launched a health app in February to track the public to see if they could become infected with a new type of coronary virus.

Even if the app says "I'm healthy ", the store will deny him access, says Windas.

"I think it's quite understandable that people react like that, because you can understand that as many people fall ill and die, anxiety levels rise ," his father said. "

"It is a fear and a worry. "

"China is poorly reported in the media because it stems from the Western perception of the Chinese regime and its authoritarian nature. So there are really a lot of worries, which is completely natural for parents. "

Mr Wendas, a teacher living alone in an apartment in Heilongjiang province, said he felt lonely during the blockade and "did not expect it to last so long "; but he tried to" read a lot of books "and keep in touch with his family and friends to kill his time.

Windas said ," You have to take whatever you have. You have to live on them. "

He stated that he had initially considered returning to the United Kingdom but had finally decided not to do so because "we were told that the situation was improving" and that people would "follow all the rules ".

"And if I return home, there will be a question of whether I can come back to work, because no foreigner can enter China yet. "

"Now, I feel comfortable and happy here. I like my job, I have some good friends here, and I enjoy it, very easy. "

His father added :" Although thousands of miles apart from his son is difficult, I think he probably did the right thing. "
