On Friday, a small liquor supermarket in southeast Melbourne was robbed and fierce fighting between shop assistants and robbers was filmed.

Surveillance videos show four men walking into a liquor supermarket in Doveton Avenue at about 06:30 in the evening.

One of them stood at the counter with a bottle of wine, while the others stood around with it.

Eddie Sawan, the operator of the family business, said he was at the counter while his brother and a friend were behind.

When the group tried to escape, the 64-year-old grandfather subdued a young man with his elbow stuck in his neck.

Two employees pushed the man to the ground and called the police, while the other chased the other young man with a baseball bat.

The men came back with sticks to save their friends and broke the glass door.

"at that time, we were at war and bottles were thrown all over the place," said the shopkeeper. "We must rise up and resist, because either you die or I die."

One employee complained that it took the police about half an hour to get there.

It was the third time the store had been attacked this year-the first with a knife and a car crash robbery in May.

"I`m scared and worried and angry," the shopkeeper said. "We`re trying to protect our stores and business-anyone would do that."
