Newcastle Maritime Museum is located about 170km north of Sydney in Newcastle, the second largest city in New South Wales, founded in 1972 and one of Australia's earliest open marine museums. Newcastle Maritime Museum is located on the (Hunter River) side of the Hunter River. Newcastle and Hunter's history of dealing with oceans and rivers over the past two centuries is showcased with a wealth of historical collections and literature, as well as a souvenir store.
