Cobar

Introduction of Cobar

Cobar is a small town in the interior of central New South Wales, about 680km by car from Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, between Brokenhill (Broken Hill) and Dabo (Dubbo), two major towns in the interior of New Island.

The name Cobar comes from the native language, meaning "red earth" or "burned earth", where there is a wealth of indigenous rock art relics. In addition, Cobar is a small town with mining as the main pillar industry, the surrounding areas are rich in copper resources, founded in 1878, the Great Cobar Copper Mining Co., Ltd. (The Great Cobar Copper Mining Company Limited) is the oldest mining company, In the long mining history has left a lot of historical architectural relics. At the height of mining, Cobar had more than 10000 permanent residents and its own stock exchanges, and by the 1930s the population had fallen to more than 1000 by the early 1980s, as the mining industry declined. The discovery of elements such as gold, silver, lead, zinc and other elements around the town led to a new round of population influx, which is now stable at about 4000 people.
